A Six-Day Silent Retreat of Stillness and Movement

This silent retreat will flow from periods of sitting meditation (on cushions or chairs) to walking meditation to several periods of yoga practice each day. The yoga is grounded in the tradition of Viniyoga, a style that is in turn grounded in awareness of breath and the physical movement that flows out of that breath awareness. The awareness work moves seamlessly from meditation in seated stillness to meditation in movement. Beginners to yoga and meditation are very welcome. If you have any questions about this retreat, you can email Jeff Collins at tsultrim312@gmail.com, or call or text at 607-279-5590; or email Gisela Konrad at gisela@maitristudioithaca.com, or call or text her at 607-279-3668.
The retreat officially begins with dinner at 7:00 PM on 12/28, and ends with lunch at around 1:00 on 1/03.
To maximize Covid safety all retreatants will need to provide proof of full vaccination. We will also require a negative PCR test three days before the retreat, and each retreatant will need to take a provided BinaxNow rapid antigen test upon arrival. We will also require all participants to wear effective masks while moving about the lodge, except in their rooms or in place in the meditation hall.
It has long been the tradition in this retreat for us to prepare the meals ourselves. We have a volunteer head cook who plans the meals and and does almost all of the actual cooking. Each day retreatants sign up to participate in the washing, peeling and chopping of the ingredients. We've been doing meal prep this way for sixteen years or so, and it has become a valued part of the retreat for many participants over that time, and Light on the Hill has graciously agreed to allow us to continue in this tradition. The meals are all basically vegan, and any non-vegan ingredients, like grated cheese, will be offered as an option.
