Regaining Well-Being Through Forgiveness
Saturday, September 10th, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Light on the Hill Retreat Center
Van Etten, New York
Leader: Mara Alper
In our culture, we often hear the phrase, “Forgive and forget.” But forgiveness isn’t about forgetting. It is about reclaiming the energy tied up in anger and hurt, and freeing it for positive purposes.
Forgiveness is a choice that allows us to heal on our own, without the other person acknowledging their part, apologizing or even being present. We can also choose to forgive ourselves; sometimes this is even harder than forgiving another. We forgive not because we ought to, but because it will help us feel better.
During this one-day workshop, you will experience a forgiveness process through a blend of meditation, discussion, journaling and gentle movement to guide you toward a softened heart and healing. Mara’s documentary Forgiveness will be screened and discussed.
This thought provoking workshop is for anyone who has been hurt, but has not yet healed.
MARA ALPER is a teacher, media artist and writer. Her documentaries Stories No One Wants To Hear (1993) and Forgiveness (2006) have reached world-wide audiences about healing past and present pain. She inadvertently became an expert in forgiveness because of her life circumstances and her unwillingness to let the past deflate her life energy any longer.
